As we posted in September of last year, Microsoft announced that Windows XP, which was released 12 years ago, will no longer be supported after April 8, 2014. Our information tells us that only 3% of Xojo users are using Xojo on Windows XP. Supporting XP is limiting our ability to move Xojo forward on the Windows platform. Therefore, starting with Xojo 2014r1, we will no longer support Windows XP for the IDE itself.
We will still support Windows XP for built applications but we would like your feedback concerning this. As I said, XP is limiting Xojo and we have plans that will require us to ultimately stop supporting XP for built applications. Recently, Microsoft announced they would continue providing malware detection updates for XP users until July 14th, 2015. This does not include windows updates, security updates, or hot fixes. Another way to explain this is that Microsoft will no longer address security holes that may allow malware in Windows XP, but will try and help remove it once it is there. This is not a good environment for either developers or end users.
It is Xojo’s strong recommendation that everyone move to a supported Windows operating system from Windows XP immediately. Windows 7 and 8.1 include numerous improvements with support extending to 2020 and 2023 respectively.
Update: You may want to consider using Windows 10.
